The NSDCA is the chess league covering North Staffordshire and South Cheshire, although the boundaries for the league do stretch into West Shropshire and East Derbyshire, covering Macclesfield, Market Drayton, Nantwich, Ashbourne and Stafford.
It is not known exactly how long the league has been going on, although there is a record of League Champions going back to 1951, when a team called Victory used to dominate the league. This continued in the 50's and the 60's until Electra became the team to beat in the 70's, only missing out on the title in 74 until 1978. Then, Cheddleton came along and began to dominate proceedings and that trend has continued through to the present day, where Leek and Cheddleton Chess Club still stand proud.
There are currently 10 teams that compete in the league across 4 divisions and 4 cup competitions, as well as a summer rapidplay tournament planned for 2008.
